Luzz Cannon XPP M1 — The Foam-Core Cannon

USAP Approved · UPA-A Pending · Pre-Order

The Cannon is the paddle that made a lot of players take Luzz seriously: an elongated power paddle that hit way above its price. The Cannon XPP M1 is the first Cannon built on a foam core. Luzz calls it XPOP — their own modified foam, tuned for rebound — and pairs it with a T700 carbon face finished in green silicon carbide grit.

The outline and handle are the ones you already know from the Cannon2 M1. The job hasn't changed either: drives, speed-ups, counters, put-aways. What changed is the engine inside and the texture on the face.

Best For

  • Attackers who win points with drives, speed-ups and put-aways — not long reset battles
  • Spin players who want a gritty face built to hold its bite
  • Cannon and Cannon2 owners curious how the family plays on foam
  • Players who like some mass behind the ball (122 swing weight per Luzz)
  • USAP tournament and rec players — UPA-A is still pending (see FAQs)

Skill Level

Intermediate to advanced — roughly 3.5 and up. The elongated shape buys you reach and leverage, but the sweet spot is longer and narrower than a widebody's and the face is lively. Luzz says it straight: dinks, blocks and resets need soft hands with this one. Still finding the middle of the paddle? Start with a hybrid like the Luzz Glider 2026.

Why Players Like It

  • Cannon pop, foam core: XPOP is built for rebound, so the ball jumps off the face in fast hands exchanges and carries on full drives.
  • Grit with a job: silicon carbide is a hard, wear-resistant grit, and Luzz put it on this face specifically so the texture lasts through long sessions.
  • Your hand already knows it: same 16.54" x 7.48" outline, 5.52" handle and 4.13" grip as the Cannon2 M1 and Inferno2 M1.
  • Approved on the new test: on the USA Pickleball list since October 1, 2026, with the PBCoR mark from USAP's newer rebound testing printed on the face.
  • Dealer-backed warranty: 12 months from Luzz, and we run the claim for you.

Performance Notes

Power. It's a Cannon — it's built to hit. Luzz tuned the XPOP core for rebound and pitches it for quick attacks off short swings — counters, speed-ups, punch volleys — as well as full drives and overheads.

Spin. Green SiC grit over T700 carbon gives the ball real bite for rolled drives and slice. The question with any grit face is how long the texture lasts, and that's exactly the problem Luzz says this surface was built to solve. It just launched, so nobody has a full season on one yet — that's what our 30-day return window is for.

Weight and stability. Luzz lists a 122 swing weight, and an independent tester measured 122.85 — on the heavier side, which helps it plow through drives and hold its ground against big hitters. Twist weight is 6.3 per Luzz (6.2 measured): typical for an elongated, solid on clean contact, less forgiving than a widebody when you catch one near the edge.

Soft game. Not a pillow. Resets and dinks take deliberate hands. If your game lives at the kitchen line, the Glider 2026 is the Luzz to look at.

Quick Buying Summary

Get it if: you play aggressive, you like elongated reach, you want a grit face, and your events run under USAP — or you just play rec.

Skip it if: you need UPA-A today, you're a reset-first player, or you want maximum forgiveness.

Bottom line: the Cannon's attitude on a foam core and a grit face.

How It Compares

Cross-shopping the Luzz paddles we carry:

Paddle Profile Certified Price
Luzz Cannon XPP M1 (this paddle) Foam core, SiC grit, power USAP (UPA-A pending) $179
Luzz Cannon2 M1 16mm Same shape, coated carbon face, power USAP + UPA-A $119
Luzz Inferno2 M1 — Dawn MPP2 core, SiC grit, power USAP + UPA-A $239
Luzz Glider 2026 16mm Hybrid Honeycomb hybrid, control USAP + UPA-A $119

Need UPA-A today? The Cannon2 M1 is the same shape and handle for $60 less, and the Inferno2 M1 gives you a dual-certified grit face with a step up in build. Want touch over pop? Go Glider.

The Tech

XPOP Foam Core — Luzz's in-house modified foam, engineered for rebound. It's the headline change from the earlier Cannons.

Green SiC Grit Face — silicon carbide grit on a T700 carbon fiber face. The grit gives the ball something to grab for topspin and slice, and Luzz chose it for wear resistance so the texture holds up longer.

PBCoR-Tested — approved by USA Pickleball on October 1, 2026, and stamped with the PBCoR mark from USAP's newer paddle rebound testing.

FAQs

Is it tournament legal? For USAP events, yes — it's on the USA Pickleball approved paddle list as of October 1, 2026. For UPA-A events (PPA Tour, MLP), not yet: Luzz says certification is in progress. Need both today? The Cannon2 M1 and Inferno2 M1 are dual-certified.

When does it ship? It's a pre-order that ships Monday, October 19. If your order includes other in-stock items, we'll hold it and ship everything together Monday.

How is it different from the Cannon2 M1? Same outline, same handle, same 122-ish swing weight on paper. The difference is the core and the face: the XPP runs XPOP foam and a green SiC grit face, while the Cannon2 M1 uses a reinforced core with Luzz's Aero-9966 coating over T700 carbon. The Cannon2 M1 is also UPA-A approved today, and $60 less.

Is it a soft paddle? No — it's lively. Luzz's own guidance is that dinks, blocks and resets need a softer touch. Control-first players should look at the Glider 2026.

What's the grip size? 4.13" circumference on a 5.52" handle — on the slim side, with room for two-handed backhands. Add an overgrip if you like it fuller.

What's the warranty? 12 months from Luzz, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Contact us first and we'll handle the claim.

Can I return it? Yes — 30 days from your order date, in original condition and packaging. Add Play-Test Coverage at checkout and returns are free with a prepaid label.
