Ronbus Tenon R3.16
The power elongated. Most plow-through in the line, still tournament-legal.
The Tenon series is Ronbus’ 4th-generation build, and the name is the whole story: a mortise-and-tenon EPP/EVA joint core — an interlocking foam joint borrowed from woodworking — wrapped in an elastic layer and bonded to a high-strength carbon frame. The result is a paddle that stays stable and powerful when you swing through it, and turns plush and quiet when you block or dink. No honeycomb, no plastic, no core crush to babysit. Up top is Ronbus’ NanoBond raw carbon face, cross-linked at a nano scale so the grit — and the spin — lasts.
Best For
Singles players and aggressive drivers who want reach and put-away power. The highest swingweight of the four (117) gives you the most plow-through on drives, serves, and overheads — without stepping outside USAP limits.
Skill Level
3.5 and up — best for players with a developed swing who want power on tap and don’t mind a slightly heavier feel.
Why Players Like It
- Spin that holds up. The NanoBond face keeps its texture instead of polishing smooth after a month of drilling.
- Control without going dead. The dual-foam joint dampens vibration on resets but still gives you pace when you swing.
- Durability built in. The interlocking core is engineered against the delamination and core-crush that plague thermoformed paddles.
- Tournament-legal. USAP PBCoR.43 approved — good for sanctioned play out of the box.

Performance Notes
Same elongated footprint as the R1 but tuned heavier: the 117 swingweight carries through the ball for extra pop on groundstrokes, and the 6.16 twistweight keeps it more stable than the R1 on off-center contact. It asks a bit more from your hands in fast exchanges, and pays you back with power.

How It Compares
All four Tenons share the same core, face, and $169.99 price — the shape is the decision:
| Shape | Profile | SW / TW | Pick if… |
|---|---|---|---|
| R1.16 | Elongated, curved top | 114 / 5.92 | You want reach + spin, control-first |
| R2.16 | Widebody standard | 109 / 6.59 | You want fast hands + forgiveness |
| R3.16 | Elongated | 117 / 6.16 | You want the most power + plow-through |
| R4.16 | Hybrid | 111 / 6.61 | You want one do-everything paddle |
Stepping down from the Tenon, the Ronbus Quanta 16mm line ($119) is the budget foam-core sibling — lighter, livelier, and a strong value, but without the Tenon’s refined mortise-and-tenon core, NanoBond surface, or plush control.
The Technology
Mortise-and-Tenon Joint Core. An interlocking EPP/EVA foam joint gives the paddle strength and durability right at the center, while an elastic layer bonded to the carbon frame adds targeted flex — stable power on the swing, soft dampening on touch shots.
NanoBond Surface. A nano-scale cross-linked bonding network in the carbon-fibril matrix makes the face highly wear-resistant, so the spin-generating texture lasts far longer than a standard raw carbon peel-ply.
FAQs
Is the Tenon R3.16 tournament legal?
Yes — it’s USAP PBCoR.43 approved for sanctioned play. Always confirm the current approved list for your specific event.

How is this different from the Ronbus Quanta?
