Ronbus Tenon R1.16

The spin-and-control elongated. Reach, plush touch, and a face that bites.

The Tenon series is Ronbus’ 4th-generation build, and the name is the whole story: a mortise-and-tenon EPP/EVA joint core — an interlocking foam joint borrowed from woodworking — wrapped in an elastic layer and bonded to a high-strength carbon frame. The result is a paddle that stays stable and powerful when you swing through it, and turns plush and quiet when you block or dink. No honeycomb, no plastic, no core crush to babysit. Up top is Ronbus’ NanoBond raw carbon face, cross-linked at a nano scale so the grit — and the spin — lasts.

Best For

All-court players who want the reach of an elongated shape without giving up feel. If you build points with spin, live for the third-shot drop, and still want to finish when the ball sits up, this is your shape.

Skill Level

3.5 and up — rewards players who generate their own pace and want a control-first platform with real spin.

Why Players Like It

  • Spin that holds up. The NanoBond face keeps its texture instead of polishing smooth after a month of drilling.
  • Control without going dead. The dual-foam joint dampens vibration on resets but still gives you pace when you swing.
  • Durability built in. The interlocking core is engineered against the delamination and core-crush that plague thermoformed paddles.
  • Tournament-legal. USAP PBCoR.43 approved — good for sanctioned play out of the box.

Performance Notes

At a 114 swingweight it’s the more maneuverable of the two elongated Tenons — quicker through hands than the R3 while still carrying plow-through on drives. The NanoBond face grabs the ball for heavy topspin rolls and shape-shifting dinks; the mortise-and-tenon core keeps resets soft and predictable.

How It Compares

All four Tenons share the same core, face, and $169.99 price — the shape is the decision:

Shape Profile SW / TW Pick if…
R1.16 Elongated, curved top 114 / 5.92 You want reach + spin, control-first
R2.16 Widebody standard 109 / 6.59 You want fast hands + forgiveness
R3.16 Elongated 117 / 6.16 You want the most power + plow-through
R4.16 Hybrid 111 / 6.61 You want one do-everything paddle

Stepping down from the Tenon, the Ronbus Quanta 16mm line ($119) is the budget foam-core sibling — lighter, livelier, and a strong value, but without the Tenon’s refined mortise-and-tenon core, NanoBond surface, or plush control.

The Technology

Mortise-and-Tenon Joint Core. An interlocking EPP/EVA foam joint gives the paddle strength and durability right at the center, while an elastic layer bonded to the carbon frame adds targeted flex — stable power on the swing, soft dampening on touch shots.

NanoBond Surface. A nano-scale cross-linked bonding network in the carbon-fibril matrix makes the face highly wear-resistant, so the spin-generating texture lasts far longer than a standard raw carbon peel-ply.

FAQs

Is the Tenon R1.16 tournament legal?

Yes — it’s USAP PBCoR.43 approved for sanctioned play. Always confirm the current approved list for your specific event.

Does it come with a cover?

No — a cover isn’t included. We carry paddle covers separately if you want one.

How is this different from the Ronbus Quanta?

The Quanta is a lighter, livelier budget foam paddle at $119. The Tenon is the premium build — mortise-and-tenon core and longer-lasting NanoBond face, tuned for control with power.

Which grip size is it?

A 4.125″ octagon handle, 5.5″ long — room for a two-handed backhand. Add an overgrip to build it up.

When does my pre-order ship?

Orders placed now ship Monday, July 6. The first batch is limited.
