AIREO isn't a household name yet — but the Cyclone X Hybrid is the kind of paddle that earns you a second look at the courts. Built around a proprietary PulseFoam™ core with a floating suspension system and a raw carbon NanoGraph face, this thing plays bigger than its price tag. USAP approved, PBCoR .43 certified, and engineered for players who want genuine pop without sacrificing touch. If you've been sleeping on AIREO, this is the one to wake up with.

Best For

  • Intermediate to advanced players who want a power-forward hybrid
  • Players who drive hard but still need kitchen touch
  • Anyone looking for something genuinely different under $200
  • Tournament-ready play — USAP approved and PBCoR .43 certified

Skill Level & Play Style

Designed for advanced and professional players, but accessible enough for a serious 4.0 who's ready to step up. The hybrid shape gives you more reach and a longer face than a standard paddle without going full elongated. The 16mm thickness keeps things in the control range — you're not just swinging a cannon, you're swinging a precise one.

Best suited for aggressive baseline players and bangers who've learned patience. The floating foam core rewards smart shot selection — it'll punish weak returns on drives and give you enough feel to place drops when you need to.

Why Players Like It

  • PulseFoam™ Core: MPPE microcellular foam bounces back fast — you feel it immediately on hard drives. Less dead-zone than standard PP honeycomb at the edges.
  • Floating Foam Suspension: The core actually decouples from the frame slightly on impact, which extends dwell time and smooths out off-center hits. That's real tech, not marketing.
  • NanoGraph™ Grit Surface: Proprietary multi-layer raw carbon face built for grip and longevity. Spin holds up over time — this isn't a surface that goes dead after a month.
  • Hybrid Shape: Wide enough for a generous sweet spot, long enough for reach. It's a good all-around shape for singles or doubles.
  • Comes with a neoprene cover — a $20 value included in the box. Small thing, but nice.

Technology Breakdown

PulseFoam™ Core (MPPE)

AIREO's core material is microcellular polypropylene foam — a higher-resilience alternative to standard honeycomb PP. It rebounds faster, resists compression fatigue better over time, and stays consistent across the whole face. You'll notice the difference most on back-to-back drives — the paddle doesn't tire out the way some others do.

Floating Foam Suspension

The core isn't glued rigidly to the frame. Instead, it's elastically decoupled — meaning on impact, the core can micro-shift before springing back. This extends dwell time (more feel, more placement control), reduces edge torque on off-center hits, and cuts down on high-frequency vibration. Your arm will thank you on long sessions.

NanoGraph™ Surface Texture

Multi-layer T700 raw carbon fiber face with a proprietary grit texture. Engineered specifically for spin retention and surface longevity. Unlike cheaper carbon faces that lose grip within weeks of regular play, NanoGraph is designed to hold up — and it's certified to stay within PBCoR .43 spec.

Performance Notes

Power: High. The MPPE core and floating suspension create a noticeably springy feel — drives come off the face with real pace. If you're used to stiffer carbon paddles, expect an adjustment period.

Control: Good for a power-oriented paddle. The extended dwell time helps on drops and resets. Not a finesse paddle by nature, but more capable around the kitchen than you'd expect.

Spin: Solid. The NanoGraph grit grabs the ball well and holds up over time — a genuine differentiator vs. paddles with cheaper carbon layups.

Feel: Livelier than most 16mm paddles — some players will love this, some will want more dampening. The floating suspension does reduce unwanted vibration.

Swing Weight (109 kg·cm²): On the heavier side. Maneuverability at the net takes some getting used to, but it loads up beautifully on groundstrokes.

Quick Buying Summary

Buy this if: You're an aggressive 4.0–5.0 who drives hard and wants a certified competitive paddle that earns its keep under $200.

Skip it if: You're primarily a dink-and-reset player or prefer a very stiff, low-dwell feel — you'd be better served by a stiffer thermoformed carbon option.

FAQs

Is this USAP approved for sanctioned tournament play?
Yes — USAP approved and PBCoR .43 certified.

What's the difference between this and the standard Cyclone 16mm?
The Cyclone X Hybrid uses a hybrid shape (wider and longer) vs. a more traditional outline. It also features the NanoGraph surface texture, which AIREO introduced on the X model for improved spin and durability.

Is the grip size standard?
The circumference is 4.05"–4.13", which is on the smaller side. Most players run an overgrip on top — that'll bring it up to a more standard 4.25".

Does it come with anything?
Yes — includes a neoprene paddle cover.

What's the return policy?
We accept returns on new paddles within 30 days in original, unplayed condition. Hit a ball with it and it's yours — that's standard across the industry. If you want to demo it first, ask us about paddle trial options at the store.
